Independent Living Skills Instruction

ILS provides structured instruction in essential daily living skills, including meal planning and preparation, household organization, cleaning routines, and personal scheduling. Support is delivered through modeling, coaching, and reinforcement to promote long-term skill retention and autonomy.

Money Management and Financial Literacy

Consumers receive individualized coaching in budgeting, bill payment, banking, and responsible spending. Instruction emphasizes understanding income, managing expenses, and developing habits that support financial stability and independence.

Community Navigation and Resource Utilization

Services include guidance on accessing and navigating community resources such as public transportation, medical offices, social services, and recreational opportunities. Instruction supports increased confidence and independence in community participation.

Health, Safety, and Self-Advocacy Skills

ILS supports consumers in understanding personal health needs, scheduling appointments, managing medications with oversight, and recognizing safety risks. Consumers are also coached in self-advocacy, including communicating needs, making informed choices, and understanding their rights.

Employment and Education Readiness Support

Where authorized, ILS assists consumers in developing foundational skills related to employment or education, such as time management, workplace expectations, organization, and communication. Services complement, but do not replace, job coaching or supported employment programs.

Goal-Driven, Person-Centered Planning

All ILS services are individualized and tied directly to measurable goals outlined in the consumer’s IPP. Progress is regularly reviewed, documented, and adjusted to ensure services remain relevant, effective, and aligned with the consumer’s evolving needs and preferences.
